BioHeat

Fueling a cleaner future with Bioheat®

We are excited to share that Bioheat® fuel (B10) is now available for homes in Southern Maryland! Below are some Frequently Asked Questions to help you understand Bioheat® and our plans for expanding its availability.

What is Bioheat®?

Bioheat® fuel is a blend of heating oil with biodiesel, a renewable, low carbon biodegradable fuel produced in the USA. We will be using a B10 blend. As the blends increase over time, the carbon emissions continue to go down.

The Big WHY?

We’re committed to doing our part to protect the environment. The B10 blend reduces carbon emissions by 7.5% compared to traditional heating oil, each time it’s used.

  • Cleaner Energy: Bioheat® offers the same reliable heating but with the added benefit of being better for the planet. Bioheat® fuel emits up to 80% less carbon dioxide than petroleum-based heating oil. Carbon dioxide is widely believed to be the main contributor to climate change. Reducing the carbon dioxide output of heating systems is vital in decreasing this impact.
  • Local Impact: Bioheat® is made from renewable resources, supporting local jobs and farmers. Additionally, by reducing the carbon footprint of the community, everyone is moving towards cleaner energy.

Key Benefits

Will it cost more?

No. The B10 blend will be the same pricing as our No. 2 Heating Oil.

Will I have to upgrade my equipment?

No. The Bioheat® is fully compatible with current heating systems. No modifications are needed to enjoy the cleaner fuel option. Extensive testing has been done to assure the safe, reliable operation of Bioheat® fuel in all types of liquid fuel powered heating and hot water systems.

Does the fuel include any additives?

Like our regular heating oil, the Bioheat® will be treated with UltraGuard to protect your tank and ensure top performance. Drivers will treat above ground tanks for added protection on Gelling.

Availability

Burch has a limited supply of B10 Bioheat® and will be delivering in certain areas. At this time, Bioheat® cannot be requested but as success of this program continues and supplies increase, we will expand to all areas. Bioheat® is currently only available for heating oil customers. Our goal is to implement Bioheat® more widely in the coming years as part of our broader sustainability goals.
