Joe Burch is President of Burch Oil Company. Since joining the family business in 1981, his journey through nearly every department has given him a deep understanding of the company’s operations and a lasting commitment to serving the Southern Maryland community. Joe even had to pull the hose in the Blizzard of 79 for a week instead of going to school.
He holds his Commercial Hazmat driver’s license, Chevron Lubricants Technical Certification, Fuel Hedging Certificate and Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Training, bringing a wealth of technical expertise, alongside his real-world experience.
Joe enjoys golfing, traveling throughout the U.S., and cheering on the Steelers, Orioles and Capitals. A proud husband and father, he’s also coached youth baseball from little league to high school.
As Vice President of Burch Oil and Propane, Donnie Burch brings decades of hands-on experience and leadership to the family business. He oversees the service and installation departments, manages the propane division and new construction projects, handles all company liability insurance and works closely with the Maryland Department of the Environment to ensure regulatory compliance.
Over the years, he has done it all: cutting grass at Clarkes Landing, delivering tires, batteries and accessories to gas stations, driving oil delivery trucks, managing car washes and service stations and running the pump and tank department. Donnie is also a certified tank installer for the state of Maryland.
Donnie enjoys family gatherings, pool time with his granddaughter and the joy of the Christmas season.
Sheri brings a passion for serving Southern Maryland to the business. As Vice President, she oversees IT, HR and Marketing & Advertising, ensuring that the company stays true to its customer-first values.
Since joining the company in 1984, Sheri has called on dealers, worked at the Charlotte Hall Amoco, learned every aspect of the business and even handled the unglamorous task of emptying car wash coin boxes. She also earned her Bachelor of Science in Marketing Management from the University of Rhode Island.
Sheri has served on numerous boards in St. Mary’s County, including the Chamber of Commerce, the Hospital Foundation, Christmas in April and Cedar Lane.
She enjoys spending time with her grown children and extended family, traveling and exploring creative outlets like pottery in her home studio.
Kelli Mattingly serves as Vice President of Retail Operations, overseeing the performance, growth and day-to-day success of the business. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and has completed numerous nationally recognized training programs, earning certifications across various branded retail concepts.
Kelli’s connection to Burch Oil runs deep. As a fourth-generation family member, she grew up watching her father and uncle work tirelessly to build and grow the business. A dedicated member of the team since 1987, Kelli brings decades of leadership, retail expertise and a deep-rooted passion for the family business to everything she does.
Outside of work, Kelli enjoys traveling and spending quality time with her family. Whether she’s exploring new places or sharing quiet moments at home.
Elliott Burch, III serves as Vice President of the Retail Division, where he oversees operations and maintenance of the company’s owned equipment and financial performance. Elliott brings a deep understanding of fieldwork, equipment and customer service to his hands-on leadership style.
Elliott officially joined the company in 1995, but his journey started much earlier. At age 14, he began riding along with service technicians. By 18, he was working as a service technician himself, eventually moving into the role of Installation Manager. He holds a Gas Fitter’s and Plumbing License as well as a CFC Certification, bringing both technical qualifications and practical experience to every aspect of his work.
Outside of the office, Elliott enjoys staying active and connected to the outdoors, whether it’s working out, hunting, fishing or spending time with his family.
Stephanie Rowe serves as the Administrative Director at Burch Oil and Propane, bringing 10 years of dedication and leadership to the company. In her role, she wears many hats, managing the organization’s propane bulk inventory, coordinating orders and overseeing the tank monitoring program to keep operations running smoothly.
She is deeply involved in customer service, handles billing for both service and installation, and reviews monthly financials for the propane division. While the list of her responsibilities is long, her commitment to getting it all done with a smile never wavers.
Outside of work, Stephanie enjoys spending time with her family and relaxing outdoors on their family farm. Whether it’s staying active, enjoying nature or simply unwinding in the quiet moments, she finds joy in life’s simple pleasures.
With over 40 years of experience in the HVAC industry, with roughly half of those proudly spent at Burch Oil, Richard Early brings deep product knowledge and practical insight to every customer he works with. Specializing in HVAC systems, water treatment solutions, water heaters and boilers, he’s passionate about helping homeowners find the right fit for their comfort and efficiency needs. His approachable nature and decades of experience make him a reliable resource for customers.
Richards holds his CFC certification, and values being part of a trusted, family-owned company that’s been serving Southern Maryland for nearly a century.
Richard enjoys spending time with family, tackling projects around the house and catching his favorite sports teams in action.
With over 35 years of experience in the HVAC industry, Brett Ewing brings a wealth of hands-on knowledge and a customer-first approach to his role in Equipment Sales at Burch Oil and Propane. Joining Burch in 2023, Brett has been helping homeowners evaluate their current HVAC systems, offering tailored recommendations to improve comfort, efficiency and overall home performance. He values the team-oriented environment at Burch, where he feels his contributions and experience are truly appreciated.
His foundation in HVAC was built early, having attended vocational school for HVAC during high school. He holds a Master HVAC License as well as CFC Type I & II certifications.
Brett enjoys bass fishing, working in his yard and spending quality time with his family.
Mike Hoffman brings over 15 years of experience in the propane industry to his role as Residential Propane Representative. His primary focus is helping customers start their propane journey with confidence. He specializes in estimating and consulting on propane tanks and lines, gas fireplaces, water heaters and generators to ensure each homeowner receives a tailored solution that fits their comfort needs.
Mike values being part of a local company that truly puts customers and employees first, making him feel right at home in the Burch family.
Outside of work, Mike enjoys all things outdoors: fishing, crabbing, hunting and growing his food in the garden. His hands-on lifestyle and passion for helping others make him a natural fit for the customer-focused world of residential propane.
Kathy brings energy, expertise and a collaborative spirit to everything she does. In her current role as Inside Sales and Quality Control, she’s a go-to team member across multiple departments, supporting customer service training, marketing and IT initiatives, sales development and quality control for installations.
She holds a Gas Fitter’s License and is CETP-certified in multiple areas of propane systems and operations. She’s also recognized through PERC as a Field Trainer and Instructor, with additional certifications in hazardous materials, DOT safety and OSHA Hazard Communication.
Kathy loves spending time with her family, playing with her three wonderful grandchildren and enjoying the company of her dog, Bella. She’s a big fan of Mexican food and once dreamed of becoming an actress.
As Fuel Operations Manager, Jordon is responsible for overseeing daily fuel deliveries, optimizing routing, monitoring inventory levels, reviewing driver performance and coordinating maintenance — all while keeping a close eye on the weather to anticipate customer needs.
Starting out working at the Burch car washes and driving oil trucks, Jordon gained hands-on experience that laid the foundation for his leadership role today. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and combines operational expertise with a strong focus on customer satisfaction and reliability.
Jordon enjoys spending time with family, golfing, visiting friends and relaxing at the beach. A lifelong sports fan, he enjoys both watching and playing and once dreamed of becoming a professional baseball player for the Baltimore Orioles.
Christopher Gordon serves as the Service Manager at Burch Oil and Propane, bringing over a decade of hands-on HVAC experience and a passion for customer satisfaction to the role. Since joining the company three years ago, Chris has led daily service operations, addressed recurring technical issues and ensured that every customer interaction reflects Burch’s commitment to comfort, quality and care.
With 11 years of field experience and a strong technical background, Chris holds a Universal CFC Certification, A2L Certification and Propane Certifications. He values our dedication to maintaining a healthy work-life balance and a positive, community-focused culture.
Outside of work, Chris enjoys tinkering with engines (especially anything four-cylinder and up), fishing and spending quality time with family at sporting events and on vacations.
Glenn Thompson brings a strong combination of leadership, technical expertise and a commitment to customer service to his role as Propane Service Supervisor. Glenn has overseen installations and service operations, ensuring every job is completed safely, efficiently and with the highest level of customer care.
Before joining Burch, Glenn spent five years at Suburban Propane, where he gained hands-on experience in both service and operations. He holds an Associate Degree in Business Management and is a licensed Gas Fitter, giving him both the administrative and field-based knowledge necessary to lead with confidence.
Glenn is passionate about fitness and adventure. He enjoys hitting the gym and exploring the country on his motorcycle.
With over 40 years of experience in the lubricants industry, Dave Jones brings a wealth of knowledge and a passion for problem-solving to his role as Business Development Manager for our Lubricants Division.
Dave has built a career in helping customers find the right solution, whether it’s a specialized lubricants for heavy-duty machinery or a hydraulic product that optimizes performance. Prior to joining Burch, he held key roles at PPC Lubricants and United Oil Company and completed advanced training through Castrol, Shell, Petro-Canada and Brockwell Hydraulics.
Dave is a longtime Ravens and Orioles fan and a dedicated motorcyclist. He’s a proud member of the AMA and the Gunpowder Trail Riders. At home, he enjoys time with his wife, children and their three dogs and three cats.
As a Motor Oil Sales Representative at Burch Oil and Propane, Brendon Burch is responsible for building strong customer relationships, managing existing accounts and securing new ones across a wide range of industries. With a CDL Hazmat license and extensive knowledge of lubrication products, Brendon helps businesses find the right solutions to keep their operations running smoothly.
What Brendon enjoys most about his role is the opportunity to meet new people and gain insight into how different industries operate. “Every business runs a little differently,” he says, “and learning those differences gives you valuable knowledge that you carry forward.”
Outside of work, Brendon is an avid waterfowl hunter who enjoys spending time outdoors and embracing the traditions that come with the sport.
